What kind of Fuel Pump does the 325I have?

My car, 1987 325I, is up at the shop now, but to get an idea of how much I will be spending I would like to know if it has and internal or external fuel pump or both.

I can get one at Autozone for $160.00
The shop is going to charge me $250.00,plus labor ($400.00 total)

If it only has one I want to save myself money because I don't have a lot of it.

Well, not sure if this helps but I have a 82 733i and it has both external and internal.

go up under the rear of the car and look for the fuel tank. if there is an external pump it will be on the drivers side up under the rear seats on the frame rail. just follow the fuel lines from the tank. More than likely you'll just have an in tank fuel pump. Pop the rear seat out and it should be on the passenger side. bunch of little bolts hold it in place. nothing too difficult. if you can do a tune up you can swap out the pump. buy the entire assembly. make sure to put some fuel system treatment in the tank after you're done. That should help burn off any small amounts of dust/dirt particles shall any get in the tank while ur putting th enew pump in.

Tabatha Hey hun what is the month of your car? If you go look at the door jam it will tell you. Then if you go to RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog under the archive selection on the left and tap E30 you can go in there and check all that apply to your car to see what it has and also helps to see how to take stuff apart. 87 is the split year and the year they went to the intank pump only later half, I know I have an 9/88 325 cabrio. I'm at Dobbins so give a holler. My bud has a few of the used ones and the boys at Higgin Botham and Assocs. all race Bimmers on the weekends tons of knowledge right here. They said you can also get parts from rmeuropean.com.
