Is there an easy way to take off the driveshaft vibration dampener without ruining it? Its in the way of my short shifter, and thats more important to me

In the front? Take the small bolts off from around the main bolt and it'll fall off, don't screw with the main bolt, if you do you'll be hoping that you didn't damage anything when you pull the crank timing gear off the crank shaft and the timing belt pops off....
Ill take a picture tonight... I'm fairly sure its called the vibration dampener, cuz thats the only purpose i can see it serving, other than getting in the way of my new short shift.

Yeah... do that. It shouldn't need a vibration dampner. The driveshaft should be dynamically balanced from the factory. I've never seen a driveshaft with a vibration dampner on it. It will have little rectangles spot welded on it that are counter weights used to balance the shaft. The only shaft I've ever seen a dampner on is a half shaft with a CV joint. Post a pic.
I know what you mean they were on the 5/86 and older e30's and then some didn't have them. And you can't take it off, it's rubber molded to the transmission flange. You can't buy them anymore (or I just can't find them) so I just cut them off when changing the guibo before the ring tears free and makes a god awful racket off the drive shaft. Once you have the drive shaft and guibo out, just take a razor blade or long knife to the inside part of it then trim off the rubber. Heck it's just a metal ring covering the guibo, I never noticed it missing...
