Valve adjustment is best done stone cold. overnight is best.
Noise from the valves is not a bad thing.
No noise from the valves means the valve is held open during cumbustion and the valve is being consumed. Noise means there is a gap and the valve can go closed.
The big issue on valves is to have them all at the same setting.
If they are too loose the cam will not open the valve to max horsepower possible.
Loose and the same setting, will not affect performance except for WOT, wide open throttle.
Valve adjustment is part of the major tuneup, so plugs, secondary wiring, and cap with rotor are also suspect.
