upgrades for M10 engine

Does anyone have leads on upgrades for the 320i M10 engine??
I am debating several options:
improve air intake/exhaust systems,
pull engine and do a rebuild with rebored cylinders (increase displacement),
cam work,
do a complete transplant to an M20 engine or.... (hey, would an M3 4 cyl fit into my engine compartment???....

Any thoughts are welcome. I can follow up on the reality checks.
Thanks!

Going (sort of) big...

I am having a shop in MO build an M10 that's bored, stroked, flowed and cammed, with an S10 (e30 M3) crank. Should be in within a week or 2. very excited. 2300cc, ~170 Crank HP and ~170 Crank ft/lbs of torque.

It should be streetable, but capable of some fun on the track.

I was going to go for an s10 transplant or m20 but, since I don't do the heavy work myself, the shop bills were going to be too huge.

I hear that the m10 takes very well to boost which could really liven it up.

Or you can just turbo it......just look at a volvo 740.....with 2,3 liter 16v with turbo......it's not that hard to modify an M10 engine
