Unusual Start

I just put in a new starter for my 1986 bmw 325E and after I got it out it was all running good and all. Then one morning about a week after I went out in the morning tryed to start it and then it like started but then died. Then I got it started about a minute later and took it to school. came out about 2 hours later and tried to start and was started for a minute or so and then turned off when I was about to back out. started it again and it was fine. Any ideas on what this might be or what to check.

Thats weird, have you checked all the conections (with the negative off the battery)?

When you say it dies do you lose all power or does the engine stall i.e. the ignition light stay on after the motors stop

engine stalls. This morning took like 2 or 3 minutes for the engine to actually start and then it started and had a rough idle for a minute then the engine stalled. after that I started it up again and it started fine that time. Its weird, can't think of what it could be. a brand new starter, new spark plugs, and it will just keep trying to turn over. Today it did it and the tempature was like in the 50's. Any advice would be helpful if you can think of anything. Also the engine oil hasnt been changed in a long time and it wasnt driven much either which is one reason I didnt change the oil but could that cause it or using the lowest octain gas? Let me know.
