Turbo vs. Engine Swap

Hey guys.
I've got an 86 325e and am interested in getting more power (what else is new...). For the past little while I've been doing some research into the e36 M3 engine swap. However, I've just had the idea of turbo/supercharging my existing enigne without even touching a new engine.
If turboing my engine is the route, I'd probably mod it to a 2.8 stroker first.
Any suggestions on what I should choose? (with cost in mind)

Turbo is $2k to $3k.

Supercharger is not made, yet.

a 2.8i stroker would be a great way to get a good boost in power. it'll probably go beyond the cost of a s50 swap, but will be more powerful depending on what psi it can operate at. the s50 however has 24 valves, vanos, and dual cams and should have a nice, smooth, strong power delivery throughout the revs, and will probably out last a turbo m20 with less maintenence to worry about
