turbo charging a 318i

hi,

i have a 1989 318i, completely stock with only cosmetic modifications.

i am looking at options to get more power out of the engine such as putting a turbo in it or some other various modifications.

is it possible to merely put a turbo on the current engine or will i have the issue of my pistons being too weak and the need for better con rods etc? (this is my preferred option)

also what are engines that are able to be put in my car without too greater modification to my car or the engine (such as a 325 engine)?

as i drive a turbocharged car in can give you some hints as to what you will need (keep in mind i have no bmw knowledge)

1. Intercooler
2. Your compression ratio is probably not low enough to run more than 8psi
3. Larger injectors plus a fuel pressure regulator
4. Knock detection system (saves your engine)
5. Probably forged pistons and rods depending on how much boost you want to run
6. A light foot
