| turbo for '82 320i Hi. I'm a new member. Just bought an '82 320i - nice car, it's been garaged and serviced for the entire 26 years of its life. Happy to be a BMW owner - getting into it is like getting into a time machine.
My question is this: Looking for a straightforward and dramatic power boost. It's slow, and I want to make it fast. I've looked into the s14 swap and it's going to be over $20k to get it all done. A little too rich for just a weekend autocross/fun car. Would love to come in at about 1/2 that.
I am looking into 2 options: 1) a 2300 rally motor or 2) a (supposedly) in tact complete Garrett turbo kit. Anybody have experience/advice for things to look for?
The 2300 is pretty much a direct swap, but the power gains are modest. Keeps the shop bills low, provides reliability... and a YukonXL will be able to beat me off the line.
The turbo kit is old, will probably require an EFI upgrade and may blow my stock engine (actually, it will, eventually).
If you were looking to get an m10 motor up to ~170 wheel hp and about the same amount of torque, what would you do?
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks,
