Transmission swap out. Is it easy?

I was in an Accident with my '87 325is (had a 5-speed) now i bought a '89 325 ix (auto). i want to take the 5-speed out of my IS and put it into my IX. i was wondering if anyone has done this before? or any info that anyone could give me about this subject. Also i just moved to Troy, NY near Albany and i was wondering if there were any other E30 enthusiasts in the area? Thank you for any help!!

Its not too bad, just alot of work. Its very straightforward. I just recently did it so if you run into any problems let me know. I dont know if the IX is different somehow or not though.

It is a different flange anyway (4 bolts vs 3 bolts)

Are any of you not seeing that he wants to put a non 4X4 trans into a 4X4 car???? It will not work you can't mount the tranfercase.... the getrag five speed is for the e30 325ix all wheel drive model ONLY.

Not to mention that taking out the AWD trans is a major pain in the ass.

If you want to buy one go here: Supplier of original parts guaranteed

Good point Starmavin! Removing the AWD trans is a HUGE pain in the rear!
