Transmission Swap... Auto To Standard... 325ix

I have a 1989 325iX with the usual 4 speed auto. I have tossed around the possibility of throwing in a standard. I was talking with a guy who has an older model bimmer that had an auto that he converted to a standard but he isn't a very relyable source. Also, someone told me that I need a perticular tranny seeing as how I have the AWD model. I am looking for guys who have done it to any E30 325i model sucessfully and the problems they (you) encounterd on the way... I will be doing it myself seeing as how I have a garage and a group of guys to do it. I just want to be very perpared. Thanks for your help in advance.

i just did the swap to my '89 IS but the IX is totally different

I now have a 325IX 89 Manual and after have watch pic on net i think is possible... Engine is same that I and trnasmission are very similar (its maybe the same.. i whant to check that next time i lift the car) the front traction is controle by the transfert case not directly by the tranny.. so what i think is if the end of the tranny (connexion with the 1st part of driving shaft) its the same for Manual and AUtomatique (wh not?) you can swap transmission and have fun :-)
