I have a `87 325i with a automatic transmission that will not shift out of second gear. The problem occured after my output shaft seal broke and poured most of the fluid out. I had the car towed home where I replaced the seal. After I refilled the system with fluid and let it warm up, I drove the car and thats when I noticed the problem. I dont know what to do and I hoping I dont need a new tranny . any help will be greatly appreciated.
Disconnect shift cable/rod from transmission shift arm.
Try to move transmission shift arm by hand or with channellocks.
This will answer weather it is in the linkage or the transmission.
