Thinking of buying a 325ix

"hi
I have a 1989 BMW 325ix, with approx 250K
all wheel drive, sunroof all power option, Auto, leather seats, new tires, new Rad, New CD player with USB and SD card slot.
very little surface rust.
let me know if you are intrested. "

That's what the original ad states... I'm planning on swapping either the motor and tranny, or just the tranny to a manual one.

Should I stay away from this car, jump on it?

What are some things I should watch out for on the car living in Canada?

Should I go with a different model? I'm also planning on going turbo later...

I also really like the idea of a AWD car.

The two newer E30s look pretty good, although I noticed the 318is has replacement sealed beam headlights. I know the 325ix has a lot of maintenance issues and many have been neglected.

Can't help you there. I'm on US government computers, can't open the links to the cars your looking at. I'm suprized I can still get on this site.
Hopefuly someone will chime in with more insight.
Helpful hints.
Make sure that whom ever you buy from has been doing good maint. up keep. Also try taking which ever one you're thinking about buying into a shop for a prepurchase inspection (if they do that in CANADA, which based on the links is where I assume your from).
I hear that the E30 if properly maintained is an excellent car. Just make sure that you have the avaliability to maintain it properly ie. cash set aside for maint.
Good luck though, i'm thinking about getting an E30 sometime in the furture. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks for the info! But unfortunately here in Quebec, Canada, you can't inspect a vehicle unless you own it... Unless of course you take it to some "under-the-table mechanic" which usually yields parts being stolen, so that's a no go...

I might go for the white one, unless advised otherwise, but it's still about 3 months pay...

All BMWs from somewhere in 1988 have the projector type dipped/low beam headlight (shows that darker circle in the center of the lens). When those are replaced with sealed beams (which happen to fit), it usually means front body work has been done; the cheaper lights were fitted by the shop or insurance.

Either that or the owner sold the original lights and put the cheap ones in.

Good to know. Don't the front fenders have a VIN inscribed?
