The Thing Near The Rear View Mirror

Hi Guys. What's the thing near my rear view mirror in my '88 320i coupe? It's like a little black box with red LED's and has stuff like oil, breake etc. Is it to tell me when stuff goes out? Or low oil pressure or what? How do i use it etc. Thanks heaps.

exactly what you said. Its a warning sensor to tell you when any of those functions is low or out. If something lights up on that, it will throw a check sensor on the instrument panel. To get rid of the light you hit the check button.

thanks heaps. Just 1 more question. When i staryted the car, the check light was on on the dashboard. But when i pressed the brake pedal it went out ad dind't come back on. Is that normal?

Same thing on my 89 325i. I have to hit the brake everytime I start up to turn off the indicator.

It should go off when you press the brake pedal, as it checks the brake lights to make sure they are working.

If the oil light on the panel comes on, it means you are 1 quart low on oil, not that you don't have pressure so don't panic.
