Tach Bulb Replacement

Just wondering to replace the bulb in the tach (which went right after I installed my rings) THANKS EVERYONE for the help by the way,....my Tach bulb has gone and I cannot see it at night, what kind of bulb is this and do I have to remove the instrument cluster again? Mine is a E30 318is 1991.

Hey... I know this is for a e36... but it might help you... its a DIY site... I hope this helps... I'm not sure.. never done it on a e30.. sorry.

Yeah, you'll have to pull it out again. But you might not need to disconnect the harnesses and pull it all the way out, the bulbs are accessible from the backside (remember all the little black things sticking up everywhere?) so maybe you can just tilt it out enought to replace the bulb(s) that went bad.

Then again, it might be less trouble to pull it all the way out.

And we need pics of your installed rings. Stat.

you should be able to replace the bulb without disconnecting anything, just make sure you replace the right bulb, they're pretty confusing. i replaced the wrong one and it is not fun when you put everything back together and it still doesn't work... ghead

The simple solution to that would be to turn the key to the "run" postion so all the lights turn on, before you reinstall everything.
