My driveway is cracked and has little bumps. As I slowly drive over these or any other small bump, I hear clunking sounds from the front wheels of the car. I heard similar sounds from the rear and I just replaced the rear shocks (since it's really easy to do so) and I don't hear them from the rear anymore.
Before I attmpt to replace the front struts, could it be the ball joints or something? The car doesn't lean or bounce while turning etc, so I'm not sure if it is the struts? I'm not familiar with the suspension on the BMW 325E; are they infamous for the described symptoms?
Oh yah, it's a 1987 325 E and it has 219000 Kms on it.
Have a mechanic check your front strut inserts, bump stops, control arms/bushings I had the same problem on my 318is but when i got my new shocks, M3 control arms/bushings the sounds went away after a proper break in.

if its coming from the rear it is definetly your strut mounts, they are like twenty bux, u can replace them urself.. in the front i dont know how easy they are to replace, or if they go bad easily, but most likely its ur strut mounts.
