Ok so whats the deal with the Super ETA? is it a 2.7 or 2.5? all i have found is it seems to be a 2.7 l with "i" head.....im soo confused cause i thought you cant make that combo cause the 2.7 crank cant handle the RPMs.....on article said it came in E28's only....some say the 88 325 is and isn't it....im getting so pissed about the mixed info....cause i know the following :P
E & ES 121hp 170lb/ft 2.7L 4800 RPM Redline
i & iS 168hp 162lb/ft 2.5L 6500ish RPM Redline
notice i never listed the 4 Cyl..cause no one cares... :P
so is this misterious ohh so great motor???....i found one article that said 2.8 Liter with the "i" Head?! WTF haha
UPDATE:
omg so WTF now im really pissed..i just read that you CAN made a e block with i head and the RPMs are not a prob... " e " Block with " i " Head

Ok Dubbya, I am now confused. What is your question? Are you looking for the difference between the 325e and 325i? Yes the heads are interchangeable. The cranks are all pretty much the same. In the mdi 80s there was a 528e (which I believe was a 2.7) and a 528i.
Basically, e's are tuned/biased for economy, i's more for fun/speed.
naw im asking what the Super ETA is mainly....kinda 2 questions in one...but i have heard being that the e crank is Cast it can not handle the rpms that the i crank can...

An i-spec stroker conversion is something different altogether, though as you've already begun to find, extensively researched and documented.
but see the thing isssss...i was talking to a guy who had a super ETA and he had a 6500 RPM redline but 128 hp?!

"Any model that is simply badged "325" with no letters is equipped with the 2.7 liter eta motor. It was BMW's base model from 1986 until 1988 when it was phased out in favor of the 325i. In its final year, the 1988 325 (dubbed "Super Eta" by enthusiasts) was equipped from the factory with a 325i cylinder head, unique pistons, 325i exhaust system, and Motronic 1.1 engine management control, which bumped horsepower up to 127 and raised the redline to 5500 RPM. (An easy way to spot a Super Eta is its telltale 6000 RPM tach.)"
Ahh super ETA... yeah there fun... But is you slap a regular ETA in an 325is with the eta head but with the 325is valve springs, nem bavauto comp. chip and a schrick camshaft you can make yourself a SUPER-DUPER ETA moter- along with the bigger air supply and dual exaust= 186hp 197tr and yes that has been dyno tested. But those were happier days before my father took the car out and tought the max rpm was 6500 insted of 5500...oops is what he said.
thats really interesting, thanks...amnn that sux for ur car :-/

No it was the ETA head but with some of is parts (Valve springs and cam shaft). The springs and sfaft give it a pretty big boost thats what we did to a buddys 325e and it was pushing out somewhere around 145-160 hores power.. but that was just an estimate not for sure. But it will still smoke a standard 325is but was relly no compition for my bimmer whih also had the bigger air manifold and dual exauhst(wich i hope i can get running correctly before college starts back up in september).
