every time I get out of my car I smell this strong gas smell, there are no visible leaks and I don't see any fuel around the lines/filter... any ideas as what it could be? I do hear a noise that could possibly be fuel though, it makes a sweeeeesh noise  Not sure if that's normal or not on these cars
This is most likely caused by a charcoal filter right at the tip of your gas tank where u fill your tank at. Teh filter becomes defective because if you fill your gas tank all they way to the brim, the filter becoems saturated, and becomes ineffective. I am pretty sure this might be the problem.

I had that odor from my married daughters 325ic and then fuel started leaking on my foot just aft of the drivers door and after shutdown. I put her in the air and found that one of the fuel lines from tank to filter had a minute hole. Bottom line, get her in the air and take a look.
charcole canister when it goes bad it reeks like gas, or if you over fill your tank (pull the trigger after auto stop happens) it can also wreck the charcole canister, they're pricy, so i just removed mine.

Yup, now that I think about it, my fuel line right at the pump went bad and started leaking. It had to be replaced
next time I'm at a shop I'll check it out... I haven't seen any gas on the ground, or even really bad gas milage... I'm not sure what's average for these cars, but I've been gettin about 25 or so city miles (opening it up occasionally)
