STOMP Test on a 1989 325i, but there's no CEL...

Hi all,

I have just bought a 325i 1989 bmw and want to know if it's possible to do a stomp test. I figured my check engine light must be blown so i pulled the instrument cluster out to replace the bulb, however there's just no check engine light on this model i suppose, there's no spot for it.

So my question is, is there any other way to visualize the stomp check without a CEL? The check light perhaps? Doing the 5 accelerator pumps doesn't seem to affect the 'CHECK' light. Or is it just a no-go for this model...

personally i have not heard of a car without a check engine light.. it usually comes on when you first start the car and have your foot off the brake, which makes the brake lamp warning in the check control come on and also the check lamp in the instrument cluster.
Is there a space for the check light in the cluster? maybe it has no bulb in it?

Anyway, i have read sites that say all the later model e30's had the stomp test feature. However i know this is not true, probably depending on which country the car was made etc. Both of the later model face lifts i have owned did not have the stomp test feature

Yeh i figured the same thing. So i pulled the instrument cluster out to replace what i thought was a blown bulb. Turns out there is no place for one. There's no CEL on my car. Dunno if that's standard with my model or what. 325i 1989 motronic computer ending in 173. That's about as specific as i can get.

I've started troubleshooting the old-fashioned way instead
