Sometimes run Sometimes not

I have an 83 325. This is killing me. I have checked several items to no avail.
First I tested the airflow meter ohms are good. Checked fuel pressure good. Checked the fuel pump relay good. Checked timing good. Checked all injectors good. (unkown if they open when suppose to) When it runs it runs like a champ no misses not a problem. Then when it does not well it cranks and every now and again it gives a spurt of wanting to start. Then it will stop that and will crank crank crank. Little ether does not help. I did look to see if the coil has some spark (no ohms test yet) it shocked the sh** out of me. (mistake) When it does run it will run for an hour maybe less then guess what. Dead. crank crank nothing. Ok. Where do I go what do I check. This seems funny to all expcept me. Picture going 80 on the I-15 they your car puffs a little black cloud and dead as you coast to the emergency lane.

How do you get it restarted? Do you let it sit for a while or what?

It is the strangest thing. It will just for no reason find the heart to run like a BMW again. It could find the heart when it is warm or cold or just whenever. It is not linked to engine temperature. It will run great for a period of time shut it down come back out later then no go. Or it will be running then just stop and have to sit for an unknown period of time and then start right back up.

Check your main relay.

Thanks a million. It acted like it was working however the contacts were black and grimey. New relay new life.
