So Close, Yet So Far Away

Well, the other day I found the picture perfect e30. '89 325i 2 dr, great condition grey paint, all service records since new, owner only wants $1900 for it. Only problem, it's an auto.

Guess I keep looking.

Well, I did look at what a tranny would cost and it looks like about $400 in parts and however much in labor cause I don't feel like getting ATF all in my mouth(again) or a tranny dropped on my arm(again) So I'd be looking at about $1000 after everything to get it all replaced and for that 1k I'm up into the 3000 range again where there are other 325i's with 5spd already.

I'm thinking of trying to talk the guy down some, but I feel kinda bad about it cause he's selling this car to pay for his sick fathers medical bills.

ahh thats a heart breaker man...damn and u must have alot of clean bmws around because if i was in the market and saw one of those here...i'd to the trans swap

i wouldnt not if i could find one in a 5speed for the price of after tranny swap...

After tranny swap it would end up being about the same price as one with a 5spd. I could probably talk the guy down some since it sounds like he wants to sell it soon, and it might help me some to just drive it as an auto for a while and save up more before I do the swap.

I am starting to think of just saving another 2k up and going for a cheap e36.
