Was getting a "clunking" sound switching from a forward gear to reverse and vice versa. Also new vibration at highway speeds Jacked up the back, put it in neutral and parking brake off. Grabbed the driveshaft and moved it back and forth (not front to back but around it's normal rotation). Got some movement and a clunk before wheels started moving.
Thinking U-joints bad.
Axle shafts are solid.
Browsing the Bavarian Auto website I see that U-Joints are not serviceable and I have to buy the whole driveshaft.
1. Could the problem be something other than U-Joints? Guibo? Center Bearing?
2. Any body have driveshafts cheaper than BavAuto?
Its your center bearing and u-joint and yes I had to replace the whole assembly(did so on my own choice though.) This noice was more of a *clunk* *clunk* *clunk* when changing gears usually from first to second.

Thanks - that's what I thought. More searching is showing that BavAuto price is not bad.

I did the swap on a 535, so there really wasnt much a difference. Make sure if your doing it, to have pneumatic tools or get the car in the air so you can untorque some of the bolts. Just a suggestion.

Car's at the mechanic right now. Turns out it was the rear U-Joint. Oh well, had to take the chance with the $30 Center Bearing before I spent $500 on the driveshaft.
This car's going to be new again by the time I am done ghead

Actually, my mechanic ended up getting me one for $400 and I get to keep the core. $500 was what Bavarian Auto wanted.
