my inspect light is always on, and even when i reset it, it goes back to inspection light blinking on red after the second or third time starting the car. I was thinking my si board has gone bad or something with the battery on the si board. anyone have any similar problems? what should i do?

hey when your batteries go dead, does the backlight to the tach and OBC happen to go out to?

Recently my backlight for those 2 things when out. This used to happen but when i smacked the dash it would turn back on. Now it wont turn back on, and it appears to me that all the wires are fine and the fuses are fine too. Wtf?

What functions does the SI board control?

I had the same problem with my "check lights" for "brake light". I kept replacing the brake light bulb on the left side, it would work for maybe a few hours then the check brake light would come back on. I got sick and tired of it because the light would really not work when the brake was pressed. At first I thought that a short was causing the bulb to go out early. So I removed the tail light assembly, all of the connections were fine, my only conclusion was that the light bulb itself was not making proper contact with the metal socket where it goes into. So I took a sharp metal pointed knife and carefully bent the metal socket inward, making the socket somewhat smaller so the bulb would go in more snug...and it worked!!!! My "check brake light" hasn't come on since. I hope this helps............3two5

nope, my tach and OBC lights dont go out, they work fine. It's just that my INSPECTION light comes on, not my check light. Thx for ur input 3two5, but it's not what my problem is. The Inspection bar is what i'm talking about. It is always on Inspection blinking on red, but sometimes when i start it up, the inspection is not blinking red at all and just the "inspection" word is lit up. someone plz help me lol i dont know if i should buy a new si board or not becuz i found a guy taht is able to sell one to me

SI reset and batteries

With the ignition switch at (position two) and the engine not running, grounding pin seven #7 of the diagnostic connector to pin one #1 for approximately three (3) seconds will reset the oil service lights. Grounding pin seven #7 to pin one #1 for approximately twelve (12) seconds will do an inspection service reset.

More information.

1. Ground
4. Temperature sensor
7. Reset
8. TDC sensor yellow
9. TDC sensor shield
10.TDC sensor black
11.Start signal
12.Alternator charging excitation voltage
13.Ignition coil
14.Alternator charging supply current
15.Oxygen Heater

It will signal an oil change need between 5k and 7k depending on your indicated speed since the last reset. It will signal stealer inspections at all the predesignated miles.

SI Board Swap Out

Last but not least - the SI Board. Above is a new SI Board with lithium batteries and below is the old one. Note the blown battery on the old SI Board (green circle). The light blue rectangle shows the actual service indicator LED's which appear on your dash display. These LED's are mounted on a separate circuit board which must be pulled out of the old SI Board and plugged into the new one. This is an easy task. The purple arrow shows the orientation of the SI Board relative to the driver.

If it fails to reset then you need batteries.

Varta battery 500RST OE part.

Radio Shack: part number 23-191: $6.49 for set of two; they come w/solder tabs on them.

1.2 volts / 700mAh

Charge fully B4 installation on SI board.

Consider mounting batteries "remotely" under dash, etc. in separate holder for easy removal in future (i.e. not pulling the console out and apart); you can buy a plastic holder at RS. Run leadwires from holder to SI board connections. Makes life easy if you ever need to replace batteries again.

From Radio Shack, get:
1) You'll need a twin AA battery holder ($3)
2) 2 AA NiCAD rechargeable batteries ($6)
