first of all i wanna say hi
now back to the car this guy is selling me a 1984 bmw 318i for 1,500. should i get it.
here are some facts/specs.
it got 176,000 miles, it got power windows, locks, steering.
RW drive, the engine is clean and sound proof(like no weird sounds) the car body is in good condition it got only a few rust marks near the door which look easy to take care of. the over condition of the car is really good. but its 20 years old, so i am not sure.
does anyone think its a good deal i really need it for only 3 year while i am going to college.
you think it will live for 3-4 more years without and major problems.
any tips or advice pls post
Okay, first things first, the mileage, 176k isnt bad, BMW's can take a beating, my car has 200k and is running like a champ, what you should look for is see if all the VIN numbers match on all the fenders, if they dont, then it was in an accident, or he had some body work done, then drive it, and see if it can go straight by itself. and see if the ABS works or not. But from what you have written, it should be okay, check under the hood for rust(literally under the hood).

just check the seems upder the hood, where the fenders meet the firewall. there should be a soft weld looking bead covering the connection. that is a factory bead. run a vin search (what ever the site is called... maybe someone can help me out here, drawin a blank) se if there is any hisory on it.
my first bimmer was an 84 318i it was great till it was broken into and written off

I believe he is thinking of CarFax.com, it does help, it has a thing for EVERY car, I thought mine wouldnt have shit, but it helped in determining where my car has been and such. Good luck. Oh, and btw, those rims make it look like a little toy with the capability of killing.

Oh, and another thing, check out the stick(if its a manual) and make sure the bushings arent shot, its not like a determing factor in buying the car, but it does help. Then, if you can, look underneeth the car and just check stuff out, see how the echaust is still hanging on, and look for things that you might think are neccessary. GOOD LUCK!

Depends on what parts your looking for. The parts can be cheap, but the labor cost(if given to a mechanic) is usually greater then the amount that you paid for the product/part. For instance, a new clutch(actual clutch) is only like 300$, but the labor that needs to be done adds up the total price to above a G. check bavauto.com for parts and such, they have all the stock parts there with actual prices.
