Shifter on my 325i have a lot off play, i check bushings and they are bad, i was wandering whats better or cheapper : get new bushings or get new Short Throw shifter
These guys have a lot of experience with doing a BMW Z3 or Z4 short shifter conversion using all STOCK BMW parts! Stock parts sometimes mean CHEAP parts! In this case, give them a call, and they can probably set you up with a complete kit for under $60.
A short shift kit usually comes with a few bushings, but installing the short shift kit as well as the other linkage bushings would give best performance. If it is for sure one or the other, I would probably first buy the shift kit myself, and then if it still does not feel right, change the rest of the bushings.
i dont know too much about short shifters but i know that there are a lot of short shifters on ebay for like 50 bucks i dont know if the quality is good but they are cheap
It is simply a shifter where the point of leverage is changed. E30's have a fairly long stroke for our shifters, which makes them very easy to shift, because we have a lot of leverage... A short shifter will move that point of leverage further up, toward the top of the shifter, which changes the amount of throw and the amount of effort used to make that throw. It is usually a very good investment if you are looking to get the most performance out of your Bimmer... but there are those that will say you are going to damage the synchro gears on your transmission if you use an aftermarket shifter. It can cause that if you are trying to power shift every single gear every single time, but otherwise, it just makes the car feel a bit more sporty.
I got two more things to do together with nex SSK, just got 2 qt Redline MTL from summitracing.com and bought a few pipes for exhaust (bye bye cloggedCatalytic Converter )
i just put mine in yesterday, but i havn't driven it yet because i just put the subframe back intoday with all urethane mounts and i woulda finished but lordco ordred the wrong retaining screws for my rotors... but tomorrow morning i will test it out! i should have my car finished just in time to get to my final exam!
