shift knob question?

I just got a new shift knob for my 325ix. I didn't want any strange fitting problems so I bought the stock oem part. The same damn thing that was on the car. Is their some kinda spacer that was supposed to come with it? It doesn't fit tight! It seems like it doesn't go down as far as the original knob. What am I missing?

I don't know if I can help but I just replaced my shift knob on my 89 325i with a MOMO knob. The old knob just snaps on and off. There is a ring at the bottom of the shift knob that fits into a groove on the shifter shaft. At the top of the shifter shaft is a square notch which has to line up with the notches inside the shift knob. If they don't line up the shift knob will be about 1/2" too high and be loose.

I also found with my original shift knob that it used to vibrate. I found putting a small rubber band on the shifter shaft prior to installing the knob helped.

Forget it...I just had to push down harder then I felt comfortable with. lol It poped into place.
