rough idle

hey guys my car has a bad idle but not all the time its kinda rough always but sometimes it feels like its about to die and then kinda revs back up it stays at about 800 then will jump to 1300 maybe then back to 1000 or 800. does this mean my timing is off? can i fix the thottle cable to help smooth it out thats what i heard you can do?i hope this is all making sense.
thanks for any help

first, check your icv and clean it. next check your coolant temp sensor.
you can find the diy for icv at pelican parts .com
