reverse lights...

my reverse lights have worked on and off for the past couple years until they finally just don't work at all now.

I had my mechanic test to see if power is getting to the switch on the tranny and he said that no power is even getting to the switch, so there must be a short or something somewhere....are there some common places to check?

I don't really want to pay my dude $80 and hour to find it....

Pull the shift boot, in there you'll see two wires that go through the shift boot, make sure it's not pinched in there (happens often when the trans mount is dropped) If not follow it to a white plug, pull it apart and test for 12V. This plug get cruddy often.

Yes, manual.

I've looked in there before, but I only remeber one wire going in through the rubber boot. Maybe both wires are inside the same "casing"??

When you say "If not follow it to a white plug" do you mean follow them toward the engine or follow them down through the boot?

From the boot inside where the shifer is in the console, from there it goes to a plug then it goes down to the floor just before the drivers seat then across to the main harness.
