Replacement Storage Partition Doesn't Fit?

I recently bought a new storage partition of off Ebay to replace mine which is cracking. After checking the listing to make sure it would fit a '90 325ic I figured I was good to go. Once it arrived, and I pulled the old one out, it was quickly evident that the two are not the same. The difference is in the area of molding about half-way down the driver's side, as you can tell from the photo (the replacement part is the top one). I can only assume that since my car is air-bagged and there is a piece of metal in that area that I needed a different part #; I did not see any differentiation when I checked the parts catalog though.

That one is from around the 86 or older with out the metal knee bolster. If it's from a manual 2D I'd be interested in it if you don't want it.

I took a band saw and modified the side on the newer piece to match my old one. The cut isnot visible once everything is installed under the dash.
