Replaced Head, rough idle and lots of white smoke

Hello everyone,

My 88 325is was sitting since 2005 (at least, that was the registration expiration). I replaced the head (apparently the timing belt had been snapped by the previous owner) only to find that there is a rough idle that sounds like a misfire on every cycle (if not 2-3 misfires).

The engine runs nice and even at about 2k+ rpm's.

Also, at all rpm's there is a substantial plume of white smoke from the exhaust. I have not replaced the gas as of yet.

What is going wrong???

I'm asking under the assumption that it is not an issue with the head nor gaskets as both were replaced new.

Other issues, i.e. fuel or air? vacuum?

Is there a sign of water in the oil, or oil floating in the coolant? I'm not sure the head gasket is sealing well.

The smoke stopped for no apparent reason this afternoon; and I've become fairly convinced it's a vacuum issue.

I'll keep you posted!

yeah, I'd just run it for awhile...could be nothing more than moisture burning off. good luck
