I was looking at an exceptionally clean 325eS when I was getting my baby and it had a similar noise in the rear. well I say similar because it was in the rear under similar circumstances. My friends dad said he was almost positive it was a wheel bearing going bad. I don't know if that applys to you, do you have LSD? if its from the back it might be your LSD clunking around. If you have one... @_@ Just some thoughts.
Edit
Braking and turning? I'd say it probally is an LSD, seing as how you say you have iS - likely chance of having one, albiet stock more than likely. :P
yeah like 99.999999% chance i'd say it still has one...lol y wuld u take it off?

old and busted? And from what I understand, the e36 model for sure didn't always have a limited slip. So unless the e30 was special like that (Shrug) it may not have had one to begin with.

Car was just inherited and I doubt it has been changed. I was worried about the differential. Sentimental car for the wife, so it looks like I'll have to figure the cheapest way to fix it.

some e30s have a lsd. Fortunately for me I had a stock 4.10 LSD in mine and i had the same thing all it was is the differential oil getting bad. I recommend to get ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL my mechanic that race preps and repairs all of his e30 cars including the e30 m3 swears by the stuff.
