As I've read, the problem with the design of the E30 chassis was the rear frame submounts and their inherent inclination to fail. My '85 has records covering the life of the car, and from what I can tell the mounts were first noted as "to be replaced" back in 2001. The car has seemed fine, even though I drive it fairly agressively at times, but I'm wondering what exactly this problem will do to the car when driven agressively, and how serious the problem is and whether I should address it right away or deal with my other mechanical issues.
Said issues are as follows:
- Alternator bushings need replacement
- Valves need adjustment
- ICV replacement
- MAF needs testing, possible replacement as well.
The car needs paint, it's getting worse every week. Not rusting, just ugly. Tinting windows would be a nice thought.
And the not so important stuff:
- Mast antenna replacement
- Seat coverings
- Decent floor mats.
So, anyone care to vouch for the rear subframe mounts? How pertinent an issue is it?
