Okay, it's confirmed, it's actually called the flexible coupling on the driveshaft that needs to be replaced.
This is too much work for me considering one would have to remove not only the exhaust from the headers to the tailpipe (which I've done), but the driveshaft too.
With my limited knowledge, this doesn't seem like a weekend job.
Does anyone have an idea of how much labor this might cost me at a reasonable mechanic.
I have to figure out if I should buy the car and for what price considering I'd have to have this repair arranged.
the guibo? i can change a guibo in about 15 mins lol...its 6 bolts once you drop the exhaust...

The Bentley manual says you have to remove the driveshaft to replace the little rubber bastard? Is this not the case?
The guy selling it says that the car thumps until you get it up to highway speeds. I live like 60 miles away and I'm worried that I'll do some damage even driving it home.
the driveshaft is the 6 bolts...its really easy...you undo the 6 bolts pull the guibo out, and slap the new on it and put the 6 bolts back in, no joke
the driveshaft doesnt need to be removed from the car...

It's not hard to change a guibo. I actually have to get another new guibo as well since my parts guy is a retard and gave me the wrong one. I don't know what it's from, but the diameter is much bigger.

e30 and e36 use same guibo, so its gotta be something other than those two

If it blows apart, you could damage your drive shaft and find yourself walking. However, the guibo usually causes thumping noise under load not at highway speeds, sounds more like a bad center support bearing or U-joints.
