Thinking about getting some Yokohama AVS ES300s for my '89 325is. They are 205/60HR14 and catergorized as ultra high performance summer. Should I worry about the summer catergory since I live in Georgia? It rarely gets below freezing and I definately dont do any "spirited" driving out of the driveway. I heard they were loud too.... anyone have personal experience?
The Sumitomo HTR 200 sound good and they are "high performance all season." Never heard of the brand.
Right now I have Falken Ziexs and they dont have enough grip for me.
I also need to change the shocks and I thought if I have the car up I might as well change the whole suspension. Any suggestions for brands or particular specs?
Summer tires have a harder rubber composition for warm or hot dry conditions and different tread patterns than all weather or snow tires have, this makes them less desirable in the cold months. In the cold rubber stiffens and you'll loose the flexability that traction needs.
Stock replacement shocks are fine unless you race, or have an abnormal ride hight (really low) Name brand shocks are the same as anything else, stick with what brand you like. Remember you get what you paid for, cheap is cheap.

"ultra high performance summer" means no driving in the rain pretty much....and having lived in GA i wouldn't want a set of those esp. if you get caught out in some of that lovely summer rain that comes about out of nowhere....
oh and i had sumos those suckers get loud and choppy pretty quick, didn't much like them for the noise factor, but they gripped pretty good and wore terrrible.

Just stick with the some nice all-weathers so that they'll last more than 10K miles. Those summer performance tires are great, but they cost more, and don't last very long. (not much bang for your buck)
