I'm looking for a nice manual E30 from the 1988 - 1991 era. I have traveled many miles and searched many websites and seen a whole lot of garbage! What really ticks me off is when the car is described as almost perfect on the phone and when I get there, I find leaks, tears, rust, defective switches, etc.
I am willing to spend big bucks on the right car, NOT a fixer upper.
My patience is running thin.
I think you should be able to get a great one for 4, and spend the extra thou getting her maintenanced, cleaned up, and really ready for prime time. No car will be perfect, because rarely, if ever, will anyone ever sell a perfect car. But if the car is only a little dirty, and couple of very minor issues (mine, for instance, has some loose wires in the centre console and head display, so the service indicator and clock only work when they want to) you could fix em yourself for pennies, and still be ahead of the game.
Seriously though, spend money on the maintenance unless you get a car with records. Fluids, filters, belts, rotations, lube, grease, everything. Get it done and be happy for many miles.

You are always going to find defective switches etc on a 15+ year old vehicle. No older vehicle is perfect in the way a new car is perfect.
My e30 is on its way to becoming perfect in the way a 3-4 year old car is perfect, but a NEW e30 isn't gunna happen unless you plan to spend bucu bucks. I've spent close to 11,000 so far making mine perfect, and that was mostly bringing it mechanically back to "perfect".
I found a pretty damn nice 1991 e30 325is with 196k miles w/ a fresh rebuilt head on it, the seats were worn but not torn, owner wanted 4k for it, original owner.
It was probably one of the cleanest e30's I've ever seen. I'll try to find his business card when I get home.
If you are really really serious, call me on my cell at 480-206-4482 and I'll keep an eye out for one at Manheim and other auto auctions that I goto weekly. Give me a call and I can discuss it with ya more.
no luck on bimmerforums?Maybe you should really get a fixer upper. There is no such a thing as a mint 15 year old car.Unless its owned by a lover like I am.

That's just it. The cars that are truly mint; polished, maintenanced, and perfect are the ones some of us own. And unless we really have to, we don't want to part with our E30s.

I'm in Virginia, I would actually be willing to fly anywhere in the country to pick up a nice E30. But, it would have to be a primo example with excellent maintenance records.
