possible purchase of a '91 325i

i was at a car meet last night and i met a dude that has a 91 325i 4 door automatic, the color is alpineweiss and its plastic bumpered. he says that it is in really good condition and he is asking $1800. he said that there is a minor tear in one of the seats. i have not seen the car but i looked on kelly blue book and one in excellent condition is worth about $1800. im seriously thinking about either buying it or seeing if he is up for a trade for my e21.
but i also need to kno if these e30's have any common problems?

How many miles are on it? Some things to check for service records would include the timing belt, water pump and valve train adjustments. Also, the power steering pump lines should have been recently replaced.

What do you want for 1800,I bet you if you offer him around 1200 to 1500 hill sell it,money talks, and yes ask about the miles,if timing chain has been replaced, and even if it he did'nt change it,just start it up and make sure it runs smooth, take it for a drive then make your offer but dont tell him that you like the car or he won't buge on the price, instead tell him it needs work and look for problems that you can point out to him, cheers and good luck.

I wouldn't buy any car without driving it, much less seeing it...
