PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! Gas and Temp Gauges Bounce - BMW Forum

i have an 1992 318i convertable and i have had it for a couple of years now. it has always had this probablem and does not effect the way it runs, it really runs great and smooth and still gets 28-33 mpg average. the gauges seam to bounce up and down when ever they want to, so i never know how much gas i really have and have to rely on the milege. it does not over heat but sometimes it will say it is at 3/4 of the way hot but then i can tap on the dash and it goes back dwn to the right place, same thing with the gas gauge but i still dont think it is ever right. i was just wondering if there was anyone that knows what i can do to fix this problem as it is probably something very simple. Does anyone have any advice?

Try replacing the batteries in the SI board but the whole SI board may need to be replaced. The signal for the temp, fuel and tach run through the SI board in the cluster and if the batteries are going bad or the board itself is having issues it will mess with those gauges.
