please help

Hey guys its been three weeks since I started my engine swap, I replaced my 89 6cyl with one out of a 325is. I got it started today (actually it started right up) but when I put it into reverse and then drive the first time it went right into it with no problem, but later when I wanted to do it again it would not go into eigther reverse or drive ... and till now the freakin' car wont go anywhere. Does anyone know why this is happening to me, I drained all of the tranny fluid and replaced it with dextron III wich is what the autoparts store told me to use. I really need help because its getting cold and riding my motorcycle in the cold just wont do. Any ony one with anything I thank you in advance...

If you changed the engine, you had the radiator with the transmission cooling lines out. You may have lost a lot of fluid.

Did the transmission fluid you changed smell burnt?

Did you change the fluid by dropping the pan?

Did you change the filter?

Well yes I did lose some fluid but I replaced it with new fluid, it did look a little metalic but it did not smell burnt. I drained it through the plug and I did take the pan down but I did not replace the filter... why should I have. Please tell me... thanks...
