ok whats the deal on the LSD's on BMW's?

ok so whats the deal on BMW LSD's? are they known for braking? what parts is making the noise in thier? are they spring or clutch style LSD's.

i changed the oil to a 75/90w mobile synthetic, thought this would cure the problem, it sounds worse now! ghead

do i need to use straight 90? any one have a schematic of the LSD, can i pop the cover off with out any problems to just to take a look? its not a 3rd member is it?

form a previous post i t has a tag on that says "S293 642" ( i will double check it).

worst case scenerio, it busted up prety bad, what do i upgrade to? what other gear in a LSD are offered? that will fit my application? is thier any websites that sell a complete assembly?

typically the pinion bearing will whine or hum.

they're clutch style lsds if i'm not mistaken.

BTW The reason LSD's weard out....people never change the oil in them ghead i suggest changing it with some redline differencial oil and adding redline LSD additive..

Well I guess you're not expierencing typical LSD noise... I know some people who have them and compare them to "clunking around" alot. But I do know that I contacted Kaaz a while ago about a LSD upgrade posibility for our cars, and was told they have one for the later case Differentials (Dunno if they changed at all... ?) as well as a kit to convert your lsd to a full 2 way LSD for signifigantly less cost. I hope I helped any. Just check them out, I think they make a very good product.

thats what i bought the car for almost! yikes!

at leat thier is a bunch og gear ratios to choose from.


the noise is a clunk/thump clunk thump, when turning slowly in foward and reverse at low speeds.

if it is a clucth style LSD that makes sense for the addative to go in. now here is where iam stupid (or ill educated). what addative goes in thier? i assume the oil i put in didnt have any? em i correct (mobile syth 70/90W)? who caries the oil and addative i need? kragen dosent!

Redline is the Brand...do a google on them
