I bought a 1983 320i two days ago for 800. I drove it and all was well. The body has like 1 dent near the front corner...Ok..here is where it gets bad. The carfax shows over 200K miles in 1996 and 98K miles in 1997. Now, it has 145K miles...so it was probably rolled back. I am soo stupid to have bought it. Anyhow, I drove it all day after I drove it and it was fine. At night when I got back, the battery service light indicator light wouldn't turn off. See the link below:

Well, I did everything I could that night to get it off. I didn't have any tools, else I would have unplugged the battery. I figured it was just a small light, tt will start in the morning. Well, it didn't. I got two parking tickets for street cleaning and parking within 12 inches of a driveway the same morning. I'm new to the area so I looked somehow I found a auto repair shop near my house so I paid 45 to have it towed there. Turns out, they specialize in japanase cars but assured me they could get it fixed...
Well, they said the fuse box needs to be repaired and the master cylinder. Now, they said that I need an alternator although I have a reciept saying it was replaced back in nov. the clutch no longer has pressure so they have to take back out the master cylinder and fix a hose. even after they replace the alternator, i bet that little service battery light stays on. my total cost of repairs is 688 and he assures me thats all it will need...im starting to think, what if the clutch not having pressure ends up something else? what if that light wont go out after the alternator replacement? now im reading that i should have the water pump replaced to a metal one...i live in the city so I cant park it on the street and do it myself. thats going to cost. plus, i still have to pay for registration and title transfer. oh yea, i also need to have it smogged in california...im probably sure that it wont pass and who knows what it will need then to make it pass.
well, bottom line. I know i f'd up buying this car. I have absolutely no idea why i did. I kept telling them nah nah i dont want it and they kept dropping the price until 800...i thought, hey its good and running..why not.
im seriously considering just leaving it at the shop and writing off my 800. 800 completely burned. i would rather give up 800 and keep taking the bus to work then fork over more money i dont have for a car that will probably keep continuing to give me problems. ahhhhhh. help ..what should i do?
