Odometer question - BMW Forum

Hellow again, I have another question for you all this evening. Does anyone have any idea what would cause the odometer and trip meter to just up and quit working. As I was driving I looked down to discover that they just stopped. All other guages seem to be operating properly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe a look at the fuse box would be a good start.

I have had two of those odometers go out on two separate e30s for two different reasons. The first car, and the first reason, was dried out solder joints on the cluster. The speedo would work sometimes then not, then it stopped all together. Re-flowing the joints with a soldering iron fixed it.

On my second e30, the plastic gears were shot. This is a known issue with those clusters. You can find replacement gears online. If you take the cluster apart, its easy to see if the gears are the problem. They will look crumbly and the teeth will be broken.

yea, I checked the fuse box and all seems well. I'll have to pull the cluster and check the condition of the gears as well as the solder joints. Thanks again.
