If am not getting current in my spark plugs, is that a reason why im not getting my fuel pump to pump out fuel? I have a 1987 325es. What does that mean Bad coil, or distributor? Been sitting for a few years now.

Check for 12v at the coil. There should be power at two terminals on either side of the coil with the key on.

You need to check for 12v at the coil with the key in the "run" position. This will explain alot.

How to tell if coil is bad? what does the coil do? do the spark plug wires still give a spark if the coil is bad?

No, the coil provides the spark, the coil wire transfers it to the distributor cap, then the rotor sends that to the plug wires into the spark plugs.

Today I took off the two wires going to the coil. one green and one black. I touched the two and got no current, but then I touched the green wire with the valve cover (which should be ground) and got sparks. What does this mean, the black wire going to the coil is not getting ground? or is my coil bad? Could this be a reason why my fuel pump isn't clicking?

Hook the wires back up to the coil... Now use a test light on the black wire while you have some one crank the motor, then tell me what happens....
