I have a 98 Jetta VR6 now, but i have recently fallen in love with the lines of the E30 and im selling my VW. I would like to know what common problems they have and what to watch out for. I'm looking for 89-91 Coupe w/o the chrome trim.
I would also like to know where i can get parts for this car, I am looking to do coilovers ASAPurchased, followed by some lighting and cosmetic things.

Engine wise the E30's have a very reliable engine.. they will easily outlive the life of the car. Many E30's have some electrical problems such as the tach. and other instrument problems, those are easy fixes tho. Other than that the E30 won't let u down, it has some balls for a little car. My advice is don't get the little 4 cylinder engine that comes in for example the 318i, the inline 6 in a 325is (Coupe) is much stronger and will make that car hold its own.

yea man, IMO dont sell the VW. Although BMWs (IMO)are oe of the best cars available, a 1991 isnt going to outlast a 1998. Plus you arent going to find an E30 that has under 100k miles.I mean its very unlikly.
Thats my opinion, sorry if someoe doesnt agree.
Go for an E36? like a 96(Best year I heard) they aer good cars to.
E30s look eight million times cooler than E36s, if you ask me.
Plus if he sells that sweetomungus Volkswagen, there's a good chance he can put together an 89 325ix (heck, M3, maybe) that would blow the doors off most of what we're driving. Good luck with that, hope to see it on eBay.
Spiff's comprehensive overview for buying an E30 will answer a lot of your questions, I'm sure.
I wouldn't take a 2004 200hp 6-speed VR6 Jetta over an E30 'is, but that's just me. :P
Oh and to address a concern in the first post, all 325is' have the chrome trim. You'd have to go with a 318is to get the black trim, and I'm not sure how you'd like the serious difference in torque compared to a stroker VR.
check out the pinned message at the top of the E30 forum for buying a car.
