Need help getting 85 318i radio out

Okay, I asked this in the audio forum about a week ago, and nobody can seem to help.

My 85 318i radio has no hex bolts, and doesn't want to come out with the u shaped radio remover tool

This is driving me nuts, can anyone tell me how they've gotten theirs out if they have the same radio?
