need help

hey guys,

i just bought a 1991 318i a month ago and i was pullin out today the car just stopd, and started making very loud banging noises everysecond. so i pulled over, and put it in first and i was rolling back with clutch out and ebrake down, i did the same with reverse. (i was on a hill). does this mean that my diff or sumthing in the rear is broke? and if it is what kinds of diffs or rears can i put in there to make the final drive better such as a 4.10 i think my friend has in his, idk im very new to bmw's tho.

Sounds like a guibo (also known as flex disk) off the back of the transmission or center support bearing.

is it possible that its sumthing else, like a driveshaft or the gears in the diff.?
whats a good place that is cheap i can get a part from?

Could also be a U-joint, but that'll make a bad clunk/crunch noise.

ya, if i start to drive it, it will bang/clunk about everysecond, im affraid to keep driving it, from the damage is it worth getting a new rear?

You need to determine what is actually broken first, then you'll know what parts to buy. You can't buy a rear end and expect it to solve your problem if it's not the problem in the first place.
