My 320i... Just About Everything Is Braking!

hey all,

Ive had a 1986 E30 320i for about 3 months now. I bought it for 3700 new zealand dollars, the engines done about 200,000km. ive had to replace heeeeps of stuff on it! the drive shaft, brakes, odometer, exaust had a crack in it blah blah the list goes on... so ive spent about 2000 on it. So now ive got new problems.

Latly the engine has really slowed down and when i start it up and look under the bonnet the holl engine is bouncing around and vibrating!!?? im guessing one or two of the spark plugs have died so the other 4 cyl and stressing and vibrating cos they have to turn two dead cylenders?? what you rekon?? any help would be much appreciated.. cheers

If you suspect the spark plugs, why don't you just replace them? They cost next to nothing and take all of 10 minutes to do.

yeah i wouldnt mind having a go at it but im not entierly sure how to do it!!?? i no the basics of car engines but never really taken one apart. Do you just have to take the top off and there there it little holes?? any one got a link to a site with instuctions?? or know how to do it to a M20 engine?? cheers for the advise...

You don't need to take "the top" off anything. All you need is a spark plug wrench. Wait till th eengine is cold. Pull the spark plug wire boot off the plug then remove the plug with the wrench. Then put in a new one in its place. Thread in by hand at first, and then give it an extra twist with the wrench extension. If you want to be extra anal, you can shoot some compressed air around the plug before you remove it to prevent any grime from falling through the hole into the cilinder.
