Motor noise and trans ?s

I just bought a 1987 325 in cherry shape with 150k miles.The motor sounds like the rockers are rappin pretty good and gets louder when revd up.I changed the oil,new plugs wires cap and rotor,adjusted the valves and still the same.Sound like somethings wrapping the underside of the valve cover.It has plenty of power,doesnt run hot and idles good.I cant figure it out.The cam seemed to have normal wear for the milage and nothing else in the head was loose. Next is the auto tranny seems to shift way to soon.Does anyone else have these problems or answers?

Very likely needs a valve adjustment.

Just did them saturday and checked them 3 times.

How recent is the timing belt and tensioner?

ETA: maybe there isn't enough oil getting to the head.

There seemed to be plenty oil in the head when we would pull the valve cover off everytime we would recheck all the valves.Not sure when the timing belt or tensioner was done.

I would check those.
