MotoMeter VDO Compatibility

Would a MotoMeter spedo/odo work in a VDO instrument cluster or must it be manufactured by VDO?

Kid_318i is on a distinguished road
I'm not sure but I have two clusters and I switched the vdo speedo to the motometer cluster and it worked just fine.
