hi i have just brought my first bmw its a 316 E30. it only revs round to 5500 then the limiter cuts in. and its not even in the red. is that normal? and what is the best way to get more power out the engine?
I don't know about the rev limiter...but I do know that a performance chip will raise the limiter by some hundreds. I bought a chip on ebay for $35 and it works great.
You can always do intake and exhaust to let more air in and out.
hi thanks. i now no its not the limiter but when get to 5500 revs the car backs off then when change up takes a bit to get going! have noticed there is a hose coming off the top of the engine witch it blanked of with a bolt and jubilee clip. but the car still runs really well. any ideas
Hi guys, I am new to this forum. I was just reading and see that there is a cheap way to get some more hp. That chip that you bought from ebay, what is it call and how can I get my hands on one for my 325ix, 1988
I found the chip on ebay that you all were talking about. It is only $26. From the looks of things, I am suppose to go into the ecu and soder the chip in????? Does that sound right?
I am new to the forum deal and so don't know much about what to say and how to act. If I am doing something wrong or have offended any one, let me know. I am looking for some sound advise on how to upgrade my 325ix and maybe share some "home-depot" style upgrades that I have done. Thanks in advance for all the up coming help and hope to hear from you all soon
I would be somewhat leery by getting a chip from ebay. Some of the chips are not burned the way they are supposed to and some people wind up damaging their ecu's and even worse their engines.
If you want to get some power the right way, look around adn spend yoru money the right way. Turner Motorsports and EAT are pretty good brands and are worth their money. Also if something goes wrong after you install their chips you can always contact them to get matters fixed, I doubt seriously that you can do that with Ebay or their sellers. Before you jump into mods that you might regret later, follow these simple steps
1. What kind of power are you looking to produce from your engine
2. How much money are you willing to spend on those mods
3. Research!!!!!! The web has a ton of info adn I have used it alot in the past with great results
4. Don't cut corners. If you do, eventually you WILL regret it down the road.
93 525i, You need to see what kind of engine you have in your car. On the M20 style engines a chip will do. But if you have a nore updated engine, your ECU might need a reflash.

Yea do research before you jump into anything....but, I've heard that a bad chip will not damage the ECU. I don't have any experience, but that's what I've heard. I've loved my chip from ebay.
Thank-you Guys For The Info. Since It Is Only $35 For The Chip, I Am Going To Try It And See. Will Keep You Guys Posted With Any Changes.
Does Anyone Know Where My Ecu Is? 1988 325ix---
