I am thinking of getting a 325i in a few months and i was wondering what engine mods you can do...
can u put in a turbo? interculer?
i know you can put in a POD filter and change the exaust but what else is there to increase the HP of the car? can u do as many things to the 325i as u can to most japanese cars?
...
hope u can help...thnx
I'm not sure in US can do like in my country(Thailand) or not but in my experience ...
The first and easy is to change air filter such as K&N,The second is to modify your exhaust system (Header, muffler etc.),Change MOD Chip in ECU such as DINAN chip will allow you more RPM (from cut off at 6500 to 7000rpm) and increase around 20HP,all are basic steps.
for next step is to change Airflow to use airflow of M30 engine and for last step is very complicate but worth to do,increase displacement by Combine your M20B25 engine with M20B27eta engine use B27 stuff for only Bottom and you will get HP around 210-220HP++ ! it almost near ALPHINA C2 2.7 engine with exciting power !
but if you want to use turbocharger,Your engine will easy damage but it cheaper cost and more power than NA tune.

wrong if you do this you will have something like 8.0:1 compression and the B27 crank can not handle the RPMS...completely myth...you will have less horsepower due to the fact the the B25 has pop up pistons and the B27 does not....or vice versa cant remember

if someone does this sucessfully i want a DIY and a full 2000 mile follow up...cause i dont believe it works on paper and in numbers....

Sorry for not clear, but for increase displacement use 2.7 stuff only 3 parts ,piston, connecting rod of piston and crank shaft others still use 2.5 component! I think even if lower compression but larger displacement will increase more Horsepower&torque (I'm not sure about real reason in technical or may be I'm wrong!)
But It have many conversion kit to 2.7 & 2.9 for M20B25 in many Shop Online and have Dyno test guarantee.
and in Thailand many people modified like this because connecting rod &crank from used M20B27 engine very cheap (around 250USD for both parts cost) and it have power nearly or more 1JZ-GE engine (N/A) from experience of my friend's car.
I'm not sure that M20B27 part can take power and reliablity compete special part from many online shop or not,but it OK for budget !
edit for add another one componet (Sorry for mistake)

Kit bashin the engines together does work. It has been done by numerous people, you just need to look around.
http://davelength.net/ He did a 3.0 kit but the numbers are not there. They do make great Tq, but unless you get one of the Alpina chips or a Hartge chip and find out what parts and cam profiles the had good luck on getting 210 Hp. In 1989 they recalculated the way SAE is computed so HP numbers from the early days don't always jive with todays numbers.
On top of that in Germany they use PS not Hp so there is another formula.
