the hood release for my '87 325is has decided to no longer work. i believe that the preload spring, designed to take up the cable slack, as there is no tension adjustment, has broken and i am unable to open my hood. does anyone know a possible way to manually release the hood?
yes there is a way. its hard to explain, but shine a flash light in the right side of the grille, in between the kidney and the high beam (closer to the headlight) and there's a skinny opening that is just right for a flat head screw driver. stick the screw driver in and turn CCW, and watch your head as the hood pops open.
thanks MrM3, i ended up finding that slot about 45 minutes after posting. it turns out the lock mechanism seized, a little bit of solvent and some silicon spray and its back to new
